Nice one. Going to walk into shops and take a 60" plasma, all good as long as I don't say that I'm not bringing it back.

Ring police again, get someone else. Whether they want to call it theft or fraud is semantics, a criminal activity has taken place and they need to investigate it. Put a complaint in about them too, do it online because if you phone up it goes through the desk sergeant who will fob you off.

I know someone involved in car hire and a similar stunt was pulled back in the 90's
guy hired a car then drove it to spain
drove it about for 9 months then dumped it when the tax ran out
they got it back eventually but its grief

by the sounds of it this isnt his first run at this sort of scam
eyes are peeled

Any news dan, re getting stuff back etc

We have a security company now, £40 per week for the site car swings past once a day but the name is enough to do the job, the guy was at my sisters last week he's well known rd South Manchester etc. I heard a story they were protecting a car lot two cars got stolen, the car dealer complained to the guy. Next day both cars were back on his lot and a monkey on the seat by way of apology. They get results.

well there has been a development...
i was called "anonymously" on wed and this guy said he had been to see a concrete crusher for sale, it was orange on a red trailer, the serial number had been ground off, and they had removed my website from the trailer but it was still visible. I told him it was stolen. He then said he had given them a deposit of £1700, and had to pay another £3000 the following day. He told me not to involve the police, he did not want these people to find him, and if i pay him the £1700, he will tall me where the machine is!! he also said "your excess will be £1500 so it will only really cost you £200!!"
No way i was doing that. I phoned insurance company, who told me to call the police. They logged it and came back out to see me again. they still will not do anything. they still say its a civil matter! useless.

Had another call from the "blackmailer" saying he had stalled them for a couple of days, and had i any thoughts on his £1700?

my response:" well, actually i have found out its insured for more than its value, so i stand to do very nicely thanks, its a win win situation for me!"
"so you dont want your machine back then?"

"nope"

click..brrrrrrr

Got a call from an officer in stafford. crusher stolen up there. Same mo. they rang and demanded £5000 to get his machine back.

Lots more investigating to do, and i have an "army" of volunteers waiting to storm in an collect it back.

Its at times like this, you really find out who yer mates are!!

more on this to follow no doubt!!

So...
anything identifying it as yours has been removed AND you are being blackmailed and pc plod thinks it is a civil matter?

Police complaints
When you do it online they have to investigate the complaint. If you phone the station you get fobbed off by a duty sergeant paying lip service. It will take awhile but they send someone out to investigate then give you a full written report on their findings. I've been through it many times dealing with many as*hole cops... unreasonable force, locking my front door and kicking it in unnecessarily, illegally searching my flat, coming round blind corner on wrong side of road with blue lights on (solid line so no overtaking) and almost having a head on collision with me etc
If they mess you around after that then you go to Independent complaints comission

personally i would agree to meet him and no matter who he sent I would get him out of them
shame you didnt know it was his son came with the van man or he would be begging for his life right now

its not the correct course of action of course but the police seem disinterested

the only thing that cheers me in this is that he will slip up one day and will get what he deserves

Yes. Although I make an exception for regular known hirers.
ironically, this was only the second time in 10 years someone has collected.
Just trying to order a replacement.

It will turn up again but not really shocked at the lack of police interest, any luck on the insurance front?
