GILES. you on about the brickwork on the house with the porch. the bricks are a strange size, 9 1/2 ". and the front is block bonded to the gable if you look.

think it is just flemish bond giles but the bricks look big
maybe 10 by 5s
there used to be a bond using glazed headers to make diamond patterns but this isnt it
the bricks were probably fired locally and have weathered differently on the headers
it is very very neat

those big thick leather hide gloves with the fleece lining are very good when hands are subject to vibration, really help with the claw later in the evening,

why hard hat there is no fall from height danger? as in no scaffold for a brick/spanner to fall on him etc

i was being told a story from a guy who works for national trust maintenance crew. their health and safety policy only allows them to use a leaf blower for 7 minutes in the hour...... due to the vibration,

we try and get the machines in with peckers now to reduce vibration but its not always an option

I noticed that on some road works last week, they was cutting through the tarmac but using a JCB and pecker instead of a compressor and jack hammer for a small hole it was certainly over kill

i use whatever PPE the job merits
I always use muffs and specs when using a breaker
never been keen on gloves ,my mates lasted about 5 minutes handballing hardcore into barrows
on a big site i would have had a hard hat,blast suit,gloves,hi viz,ear defenders,safety glasses,lace up boots,long trousers etc etc ad nauseum
:)
spoke to an old mate ( we laid bricks together)who is a site manager for a major housebuilder now
he said simply put
"nothing gets done anymore"
