its probably the last bit of block work that has run out of line slightly, then you have laid your edge course tight to it

its easy for us to say you should have run your line right through to start ,but its these little nuances that separate the pros from the good DIYers

overall though i would give it 8/10 and i have seen *supposed* contractors do a hell of a lot worse

all the best LLL :)

if you did change the flags to follow the same line as the upper area you would have to add tapering cuts to the block paving border on the step up to where the shed is and a taper along the length towards the gate which would then show a lot worse than the flags being out of line

what you have achieved is a very good job indeed for someone like yourself and I too will give it an 8/10, I have also seen jobs done by so called experienced trades people done a million times worse than the standard you have laid those flags

PS...I would of given you a 9/10 but the last joint on the key kerb edging to gate gate is too wide and all the others are very tight, they should of been evened out so they are all the same :)

I can assure you all the joints are even and it is the camera that is telling porkies.

nothing is perfect lads,we all know that :)
I and i'm sure most of you could pick fault with anything ,but is it worth it ?

had a crack in my bathroom ceiling the last 4 years (lath and plaster)
anyway its been doing my head in every time i see it
had it filled with easy fill 3 times, but it always comes back

finally bit the bullet this week and got the ceiling overtacked ,plastered ,and whole bathroom redecorated

so the bathroom is exactly the same as before but minus the crack
but i am £410 lighter
do you see where perfectionism takes you?

a very poor place :;):

Strange that you have mentioned bathrooms as i started to strip the wallpaper from mine 2 years ago and ended up as below , but the end results was worth it.

Before and after pictures.

Oh i forgot to mention when i do things i think if a job is worth doing then it is worth doing proper.

Lathe & plaster? - haven't come across that now for a few years - imagine LLL in the bath, wearing nowt but the famous boots, as the bathroom ceiling finally gives up the ghost, and descends....

ps - nice work Nochex - I'm with Dave - you agonise with these things, and then hey presto, it's forgotten, and you're agonising over something else. Congrats on one of the longest threads in the BC - keep that patio bit in the same straightforward style - the eye will enjoy it - none of that mish-mash abortion you've got round the front - dog's dinner.
I like those slabs - classic style - roman etc.

The patio area will be done the same design as i agree with you fully but the only difference will be that it will be in the same bradstone flag but a Buff colour.

The next job is to get the step in at the back door which is about 12.5" from the ground already so it looks as i will have to do 2 steps.

I have around 25 black/grey flags left and i am going to do the step and maybe the first row in that colour before i change to the buff coloured flag ....." should " look ok and this may sound funny but i already see it done in my head and what it will look like.

Wow 10k Views nr and over 200 replies but what is even more noticeable is that this must now be in the wrong section and should surley be in the flags forum and not the block paving forum.....lol

ho ho - after all this time, worrying about being in the wrong forum section is a mere bagatelle. Are you a natural worrier Nochex?
My missus is - she will worry about something that may or maynot happen. Cross the bridge when you come to it.

What i am bothered about is all the flags that i have laid might have to be ripped up and laid again as alot of them has developed faults withing the flag ( Red shots appearing all over ).

I have been onto the suppliers and sent these same pictures and now it is a waiting game on what can be or what is going to be done so n0chex is a little pissed of to say the least.

Badly mixed 'crete? Iron particles contained within mix?

Dave_L .....So what you are saying is when the flags was made/manufactured they got contaminated with iron particles from another source.

I am just waiting now to see what Mr Bradstone has to say about it and more important what he intends to do to rectify what i see as a major problem.

I would like to think Bradstone will send a contractor out to lift and replace the flags which would be 60% of the flags i have laid.

They was ok when i laid them and i only noticed 1 or 2 red dots.
