We have only had a few ex rugby league players (Bob Jackson, Roby Muller and Kurt Sorenson to name some) for our 2nd/3rds but no top flight union players.

check here for pics of our club chairmen on 'tour' with the lions last year. Recent pics.

cookie you'd get on like a house on fire with my dad, he's old school rugby. he's chief exec at stockport rugby club played there since his 20's now its all committees, finding players etc but as soon as anything goes wrong he;s there fixing toilets, showers, tractors etc. he must spend 25-30% of his week dealing with rugby club matters. i redid all the pitches 3 years ago some photos on my website.

also did 400 metres of drainage work for the club should have been in excess of £8k dad only let me charge day rate got about £1100 in the end haha. him and few old boys just bought some adjoining fields soon as the weather warms up i'll be jumping on adding a new pitch to the 3 we have. we have in excess of 500 + kids every sunday morning, so stuggling with 3 pitches.

i've got a pic of my 18 yr old blond sister squeezing jonahs bum some where haha right look of shock on his face.

When I was 13, I got a job with a builder for whom my owld fellah did the groundworks. I was responsible for keeping the sites tidy, nipping to the shops for the tradesmen, putting on the boiler in the brew cabin, topping-up diesel for mixers, dumpers, etc., and generally helping out wherever needed.

Anyway, this particular builder was a HUGE Ruggerby League fan and provided all sorts of sinecure jobs for top flight players of the time. Back then (mid 70s), RL was not a full-time career: most players had a 'proper' job during the week and trained during the evenings for a game on Sunday. So, over the course of 2 years, I was working weekends and holidays on sites populated by half the Leigh team, a third of St. Helens and even a couple of Warrington lads. There was only one rule as far as the boss, Harold, was concerned - no Wigginers!

Mates were very impressed when the likes of Tony Barrow and Billy Bennion would come running off the pitch and say, "Now then, young Tony. Ar't awreet?"

I was the same when used to watch wrestling as a lad. ( it was real fighting then lol ) Ever the loner i would stand outside, i was'nt the best dressed and the wrestlers, both men and women would take pity on me and take me in with them. Very impressive when now and again they would take me in the ring, be a second second etc. Kids at school used to ask for my autograph :) There was the likes of Mick McManus, Jackie Pallo, Jimmy Tworivers the 'real' :p red indian and many others. The women used to get undressed right in front of me, of course being so young i did'nt look :;): Was very impressive then at the tower ballroom birmingham.
