I've often thought that about the merchants being shut down from Xmas to New Year - if someone is busy like yourself, there is nowhere for them to go.

So will they take their holidays in lieu ( or whatever the word is ) and get paid the overtime plus their holiday pay? We get ten days holiday pay, it must be paid by law. The days of slave labour have been abolished.

i think what barracuda is saying is that the lads are back on the 28th quite legally
by law all PAYE staff are allowed 20 days paid leave per year,8 of these are bank holidays which leaves a statutory minimum of 12 paid days per year
this should be rising to 25 days soon, but bear in mind that the more paid holiday an employee gets its bound to impact on his/her salary

I would be frightened of employing a woman of child bearing age,the amount of paid maternity leave would send a small company under.

TBh i would rather take holiday in the autumn and work at xmas time I get cabin fever stuck in the house on days like this

The lads get twenty days plus bank holidays, so its overtime for them. Got the work and it needs doing they have a choice but they want to come in. Yes the merchnts are the pain its a good job that the diy stores are open for the cement and sand if needed but the main problem is the tarmac plant found out today they shut till 5/1/10. You can only so much time with the relatives that come out the woodwork once a bloody year.

Surely they're entitled to 28 days by law where's your christmas spirit you miserable b#gger what work is so important and urgent that it can't wait till the 4th certainly couldn't be private. You wouldn't lose a job over starting a week later and so what if you do you've got plenty to fall back on. C'mon give the lads a break you'll benefit from the rest in the long run. You're a long time dead so start living. Happy christmas.

From 1st april 2009 we are entitled to 28 days 5.6 weeks paid holiday. ( 29 if worked more than 52 weeks ) Your not paid for bank hols these come out of your own holiday holiday entitlement, although your employer can pay you if he wants. You accrue these holidays from january onwards, not april as a lot of lads think.

when you click on post a reply above the text box where you type your message is a box with http:// on it

click on this box and paste the link you want to make into a hyperlink and click OK

you will then see a similar box requesting what anchor text you would like, either leave this blank and it will use the link you pasted as the hyperlink or type what words you would like to use instead, for example "click here" or "lads deserve a break"

From me and mine to you and yours, all the best, enjoy the christmas break, and may it go well for all in the new year. To absent friends, to all you who give you time and advice so freely, to Tony for this site, to those who - come hell or high water, endeavour to maintain the standard, a toast - go well and be at peace.
