Suggers,

I`m not personally religious but if you walk into most churches during the day you`ll see a number of people who take great comfort in being there. It also dose a lot of good work for the community.

My mother volunteers for the church looking after Alzheimer's and Parkinson's suffers 2 days a week. the whole point of the church in my opinion is a set of moral codes that would make the world a nicer place if we all lived by them.

That is why the cons will get in. Not because of them getting labours votes but by people staying away from the polling stations. As kevin mcguire says in the mirror "labour was hit by an armchair protest with people refusing to vote". I know f***all about politics but i do know, as in the lottery " you have to be in it to win it". I'm not to bothered about the mps expenses claims ( human nature we all do it ) its the judasing that gets to me. Gordan is in charge of the shop at the moment, so he should be given the support he needs. He works hard and hardly sleeps. If he gets us out of the recession and on the road to recovery he will be hailed as a hero. As for religion and politics...ne'r the twain should meet.

Sounds like we're all thinking along the same lines - I wos only trying to be provocative, as you should inside the BC, on a cold frosty morning.
Rab - never been able to reconcile the idea of the god botherers sending their kids off to war. The local church has been brilliantly warming to the mother-in-law, whose moved out of London to live quite close to us.
LLL - I put it badly - Blair's belated conversion just put the nail in the coffin - directly responsible for the deaths of 30,000 peeps. I was real chuffed when he came to power - I thought it was time for a major change - no - how naive am I?
Pete Townsend got it right.

Henry Allingham, who died yesterday, finally spoke about the hideous futility of war. At school, when I was about 14, we had a showing of "All Quiet On The Western Front" - it was bit like St Paul on the road to Damascus - my eyes were opened - I knew there was no god. Also realised that we don't seem to learn by experience.
I love you all.

I have no faith in any politician. They all have the same flaw: power corrupts.

I always vote, though, because good men and women gave their lives in order that working class, non-protestant, non land-owning plebs like me could vote.

Years of cynicism have convinced me that my vote should not be cast for those who claim they will do best for the country, but for whosoever my instinct tells me will do the least harm.

my abstinence from voting is a vote in itself, a vote for apathy

If you really want to register a vote for the fact that none of the candidates are good enough then still go down the polling station and spoil your vote (put large line through the whole lot and write "not good enough" or similar)

All spoiled votes are counted and returned as part of the full statistics. I reckon that, in this country, we're privileged to even have the right to vote - exercise the right, even if you don't choose a candidate. Failing that, choose the Monster Raving Loony Party (the real on, not the Tories or Labour) :-)

Isn't there a saying along the lines of "All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing" ?

Phew, nice and deep for a Monday morning.
