Some pillock in a lorry has just run into my daughter's car, and she's carrying my unborn grand-sprog!
Daughter is OK, just shaken, but not hurt. Midwife is on the way.
What's the problem with grit/salt? I heard on the news this morning that they're shipping it in from Carrickfergus. Have they run out underneath Cheshire? I though we had enough rock-salt under Winsford and Middlewich to last a million years!

my wifes grandad used to work in that mine. Apparantley, highways have the monopoly over local councils on the supply for the motorways, so local councils have to buy abroad.
ludicrous considering we have more than enough as you say, in cheshire!

AFAIK, they have been having big problemos with the extraction of it in cheshire, hence the shortage. We had another 30 ton delivered today

got the impression that full bore 24/7 production is happening right now,and they physically cannot get any more out than they are at this moment
at the start of the week i was getting gritted 3 times a day ,now its down to 1
apparently we could run out by wednesday in snowy luton

i have just been driving rd sheffield for 30 minutes looking for a grit box, found 1 and was completely empty. i'm the only one on our hill who been out in car this week but mrs wants out the house with the buggy. where have they all gone, there is a 8 wheeler traffic jam rd winsford queueing 8 hours to get loaded with grit all our quarry wagons on grit duties
