Sorry for your troubles Lara. hope he gets well soon. whilst we are on the subject of giving. because of circumstances my grandaughter now has three sets of grandparents and the other two are always in competition on what to give for birthdays, christmas etc: as they have absolutly eveything material you can think off, i always give money. How much do you reckon for a 10 year old? I was thinking £20.

Thanks Dave. I know the other granparents will give her way to much, they think nothing of spending a ton or more on the kids. I think it teaches them the wrong idea about money etc:

Regards to you and the other half Lara. Giving kids money is such a minefield my nephew and niece are spoilt rotten by money every time they go to one of there uncles houses he gives them 20 quid and 100 for birthdays and christmas and there are othrs that take them out for treats all the time. So whenever I give them a present whether it's a fiver for a birthday or something I've made with my own hands it means f/all to them and you get ungrateful coments like so and so gives much better presents etc. Got so bad that thy now get nothing and my sister gets an earful for not teaching them the true meaning of giving and how apreciating nothing will ruin your life. I'm good like that.
