Thank's for all the replies.
It all starts to get a bit clearer now - thanks sean & dave L.
I think I've been confusing the issues a bit, power float/tamp for wet concrete - would've come in handy today.
Screeding bedding is done as is found on this site ...

As I was saying, that clears that up.
Stay with the rails and straight edge, then - methinks.
You'll have to excuse my apparent ignorance on all of this, but Block Paving is something I want to get into, but still have a lot to learn.
If all goes well, on some reasonably safe jobs that are lined up, then I'll be enrolling meself on some HLTG courses next year.

holy moly dave
them tools are mega bucks!!
i will continue with my trusty 13' scaffold board ,11" float and soft brush for the forseeable
that lot would cost about £5K for all the beams?

i like the bunnion tube for levelling concrete. its awkward to use but does a good job.
