We used to be members of the Guild of Master Craftsmen way back in the early 1990s, and, at that time, they did vet contractors before accepting them, and there were annual checks.
And then they seemed to reach a size where attracting new members became so lucrative, that the quality threshold was dispensed with. The crunch came, for us, when a competitor we knew to be a talentless, money-grabbing, oh-you-don't-need-a-subbase, son of a whore was admitted to their ranks. We cancelled our membership shortly afterwards.
The only 'approval' scheme that I have any faith in just now is the Interlay membership. I know for a fact that the candidates are vetted, and vetted by their peers, not some sales bod looking to earn commission.
Fully booked!!

Tony... so you would advise me to stop throwing money away and cancel my memberships to Brett & the guild?
I must admit that the guild geezer who came on site to see me paid no attention to the work we were doing, just invited me into his car to be subjected to a sales pitch.
He took 6 numbers off me of previous customers a cheque and that was that. I dont know if they even followed up on the numbers I gave.
Brett however wanted me to take them to 4 of my previous instalations and they were examined.
But you have me thinking that maybe its all just a waste of money?
