i replaced a 10 year old fence the other week
every 75mm post was rotten at exactly ground level
the stuff in the concrete was fine and the stuff above ground was fine
but 100mm above ground and below was as rotten as a pear
LLL
why people still use a 75mm post. they are not strong enough!
A fence i did 18 years ago using 100mm posts is still up!

I ended up fencing in all three sides, and it hasn't faded.
The posts you can pick up one handed, cut with a handsaw, and drill easily if you need to
Concrete posts are a no brainer!
(btw the plastic ones are stronger)
Not seen plastic posts before. How much do they cost? are they made from recycled plastic?
I don't like the look of that fence either, nothing wrong with the workmanship just not to my taste.

fair comment. they do other colours. That one is discontinued now. They do one that is called "wood grain" so its supposed to look like timber.
They are slightly dearer than concrete, but you save on the labour.

And I've just replaced 4 x 100mm posts which were only installed 5 yrs ago - they should have lasted a lot longer than that.
I also have just replaced a fence which was installed 12 years ago using metaposts - the 75mm posts were still fine but the panels were shot.

I had to replace 5 of my 100x100 posts. Only been in 5 years and they had snapped at the base. No rot, just gale force winds. Silly to use 75x75 given the small price difference and big strength difference.

Yeah they appeared to be, I didn't install originally. I was certainly shocked that they'd rotted so quickly.
