yes i am struggling to come to terms with this thread as well ???
every fence i do bar none is 600mm in the ground,its all about getting into subgrade
i prefer concrete posts but that is my personal preference,I did one 15 years ago in stopsley round a car park and not 1 post has moved,couple of panels have blown a little bit but easily replaced

feather edge fencing or close boarded as i call it looks beter but when the arris rails rot its a pain in the rear
TBH i really like the fencing dan suggested to me last year
eurocell i believe green galvanised 5mm mesh which now has pyracanthas growing through it,will get a picture when i get a minute

i s'pose it comes down to your alma mater, i was taught as an apprentice ( although i grant you it was a few years ago ) to use 2.700s. Nowadays it seems to be personal choice and diyer friendly

When using the tractor mounted post driver Driving 6' 5x3 wooden posts into good ground drive them in about foot and half won't go anywhere using post driver, on augered stuff its more 1/3 below 2/3 aboce done some 2.4 metre anti climb stuff rd a paranoid guys garden postswere 3.2 burried them 800mm in 150mm augered hole then concrete.

Taken from my BTCV fencing book a driven post is 150% stronger than a dug and bag filled with rammed earth post.

Strainers for wire fence should be burried 50/50

Tests have shown that increasing the depth by 1/3 will double the resistance to the post pulling out. So e.g. Normally 600mm in add 200mm deeper doubles it's holding strength.

Yeah he'd been twice inna year, back onto a golf course and only a bit of ok'd barbed wire before, so put 2.4 metre high v mesh then he asked if I could put razor wire or electrify it. I said I think they'd probably just go next door now.
