hence why on new opening with gates have to be set back 5.5 metres to allow a car to pull out the carriage way and then allow the gates to open. even with electric gates, they still have it. its for highway safety.

I've just checked and its a wide pavement. Pretty sure it will be over 5m to kerb anyway.
