Smelly surface gully problem

Foul and surface water, private drains and public sewers, land drains and soakaways, filter drains and any other ways of getting rid of water.

Yes I think that might be my only option. It does smell like to sewage to me. An enigma indeed! Xx

Separate drainage systems can be a nightmare. One crossed connection can undo all the benefits of this system in a development. Cowboys have a 50/50 chance of making a foul connection to a surface water pipe. Perhaps greater risk than that since surface water pipes are often shallower than foul ones. A trapped gully is often the best solution.
