It looks fit for purpose as your pal got it with the package, water is penetrating, so go for it. You'll be ok, just read up a bit more and don't panic :;):
The surface tension of water make it sit on top of the fabric as if its not going through A bit like how when washing a sieve the water stays in the holes until you shake it out.
But if you actually put a hose on it you will see water will run right through. How freely depends on the grade.
It does seem like it doesnt though when you see water on top of it.
You should be OK. It's not as tough, so if this was a structural use it might need re-doing, but as its role is primarily filtration, it will probably cope.
I'm on with the same job currently , gotta cover 20 sqm at 6 inch depth with sub base mot , and a layer of sharp sand ,
planning on putting weed membrane over the sharp sand and watching how it all drains before laying the artificial grass .
my main area of concern is I've got clay under it all , so gonna have fun .
Out of curiosity I have dug in a frame 2 x 1 treated timber to peg the grass to , have you done the same ?
I've read a few artificial grass install blogs and it seems to be the done thing , prevents anything sprouting through the artificial grass , do you not think it needs it ?
I suppose it depends on the type of placky grass being used.
When I did my artificial lawn, I just laid the NamGrass straight onto the prepared grit sand screed. If the placky grass is a quality product, it shouldn't need a separate membrane directly beneath it. I'd be worried about any product that allowed weeds to go through it!
And even with a membrane, you *will* get little bits of real grass and weeds setting up camp at the edge of the placky grass, where it meets the adjacent surfaces. Nothing you can do about that, I'm afraid.
I've got a bit of landscape fabric , I may put it down , not sure yet ,
it's half decent grass so hopefully nothing pops through , it may be a week or so until I get the grass down , so the membrane may be an idea to stop anything blowing onto the sand and rooting in . Thanks again .
