Road adoption costs horrendous money, I know - I'm dealing with one estate road right now. I would think this is right out of the question.

I work with local communities who want to get their road adopted by their highway authorities all the time.

Its not a quick process, but a consultants fees are a tiny fraction of doing groundworks or surfacing - same a filling a couple of pot holes.

Its not so much a question of "if they want to adopt the road", but you exercising your right to have have it adopted.

Dave_L - Yes, new adoption can take years and you often have to pay commuted sums, etc. But I understood this was an existing shared road so its not the same at all.

The question remains - what is potentially the most cost effective solution to the problem? Is it really paying for groundwork?

Thanks for the input Steve. Let's assume that the road doesn't get adopted. What's the best way of dealing with pot holes other than keep topping them up!
The top coat on our lane is road shavings which seem to stay put in some places better than others.
