Hi all, this is an update for others who may find themselves in a simular situation.................
If you have read the whole thread then you will Know that i was quoted £1600 to install a land drain in my garden to cure my water problem.......... On Monday during work, the drain man rang to say he could start the next day..I started to panic at the thought of parting with £1600 I didn't realy have.
I asked him to give me a couple of days.. When I got in from work I got out my Jigsaw and cut a six by six hole in my already Knackered decking and started digging in my hole. I borrowed a sump pump and kept on digging, the deeper I dug the faster the flow of water entering the hole from below. I just kept going towards the flow.. after digging a 5ft deep by 6ft diameter hole ( three hours) I ended up uncovering a 6 inch dia. plastic pipe falling at an angle of about 35deg. Just by sheer luck, at the point where I had uncovered this pipe there was a 9inch by 3 inch rectangular hole cut into the top of it???, by what looked to be like a grinder or saw. I was completely gob smacked to find this holed pipe and even more puzzled as the water was flowing up hill out of the hole and not down????. I called my drainage man who came and performed water tests on all of my downpipes but none of them sent water down this rogue pipe. He concluded that this pipe although under my garden was not connected to me at all.
Just as a temporary measure he has placed a bung in the pipe to see what will happen and now for the first time since the problem started the hole in my garden is totally dry. Not sure whats happening to that black smelly water though but it isn't in my garden.
I can only guess that the flooding in my garden has been going on since the house was built so I inherited this problem when I moved in, My drainage man said the man made hole in my pipe looks very simular in size to one he would normally cut to feed a camera or probe in, this house was built 23 years ago..it does make you wonder..
It's Thanks to you guys, you put doubt in my mind when the so called experts around me were saying it's the water table. Now at least i can see where the water was coming from and now maybe a resolve is in sight.
