my uncle kenny actually got blown out of a manhole at luton airport in 1975,they smelt gas and went for the ladder but it was him last up and he got blown out like a cork out of a bottle
luckily he was ok(minor cuts etc)and he made the front page of the "luton news" what a way to get famous!!
jokes aside underground is a dangerous place to be if your not careful

i know its over the top but at my place of work when i stood in a manhole my top half was outside the lid. istill have to have..tripod,gas monitor, harness,white contamination suit two half hour oxygen escape bottles and a permit to enter a confinde space. the reason being that i have to kneel down to air test, bench, clean etc. you wouldnt believe the paperwork. they pay for it so why not do it right a? :p
