IMHO you should not have to cut stone from the crate
2mm tolerance is fine but 10-15mm is not

Dunno about that.
This new vitrified seems to have achieved the sizes for small joints without cutting when laid to a random pattern.
My next job is fairstone sawn. Am I going to face the same experience as the granite?

I can only speak of my experience on 2 patios where this happened, i did not use any of the marshalls pre set laying patterns where this will not happen, like i said i laid it a total random pattern with no repeat

the key with random is not to have clusters of big or small units
the 58m2 I finished yesterday was designed by tony in 2009 and because the randomness is well spaced all the joints are between 8-12mm which for hand cut riven is fine by me
had a couple of oversize flags that we cut and had to run the saw through 3-4 joints after that were <8mm
the client is using weatherpoint so i dont like them too tight

Random riven flags dont cause any problems as the joints are wider and any what are tight can be trimmed after they have been laid, try laying sawn random made up on site with 5mm joints and you will know what i mean

Did a 3 size granite eclipse laid random a few years back.
I ended up laying the 300 joints butted and ran through them with the disc when mortar had set.
The disc follows the joint naturally keeping a crisp straight line. Joints are more like 3-4 mil, even managed to get weatherpoint in them with lots of water.
