That is the annoying thing ... I spent ages going round looking at work that companies had done ... and crossed many off the list .. looked a mess, lines not straight etc,, poor cuts (esp on paviors)
This companies work looked good ... the problem is they don't take you to jobs 5 yr old ... only new ones.
I am first to admit things can & will go wrong, as long as they hold up their side & put it right no problem.
I tried to get them back .... kept putting me off for more than 6 months ... then told me "no longer trading as 'xyz' "

Are you comparing like with like, though?
Not all buckets contain the same quantity of mortar. Re-check your costings on a price per kg basis, Rick.
Also, 365 is a polymeric whereas 800 and D1 are 2-part epoxies, which is like comparing Hyundais with Mercs.
Admittedly, 365 is one of the better polymerics, but it's not in the same league as a full epoxy-based mortar.

Did some checking again the price per Kg is about 30% more expensive for VDW
VDW 800 £80.47 for 25Kg = 3.22 p kg
Marshalls 365 £33.50 for 15Kg = 2.24 p kg
However what I want to get to is what is going to be best to use for my circumstances, and its is looking so far that VDW800 (or an equiv product) applied as a slurry, but brushed off will be more suitable for me than the 'hosed' off prodcuts, or one like Marshalls that is not self compacting, and would need a lot of tooling.

Just been busy with tape measure to double check .... and total area of patio & paths comes to 185 sq m
For those that have practical experience of using VDW800, and knowing what I need to point, can you advise how many 25Kg packs I would need.

with all these products joint width and depth make a massive difference
I reckon on around 1.5kg a metre 2 but thats with 10mm by 25mm deep joints approx
so you are looking at around 12-14 tubs ouch!
ask will they do sale or return?

wow ... that is £1158 just for pointing material ... (based on 12 tubs.)
Does the stuff get any cheaper in quantity ?
It was laid with a mix of standard sizes .. aprox area of each used is shown
600 x 900 79m2
600 x 600 24m2
600 x 300 23m2
300 x 300 13m2
Plus 1,510 paviors.

I can't speak for Marshalls as they sell via merchants but I know NCC sell their VDW range at 'pallet rates' which gets a sizable discount, but I'm thinking there's 24 pails per pallet.
Using the semi-official VDW quantity calculator, and excluding the paviors as I don't know sizes or joint details, the flagstones would require around 300kg, so 12 packs, as you said.
You do seem to have helluva lot of little 'uns and big 'uns in that flag mix, Rick!

I bought the sandstone by the crate load .. had that mix of sizes.
NCC have offered a discount and also a 'sale or return' so they are being helpful.

I know they are mates of mine, but I have to say that NCC really are one of the most helpful and accommodating of any business serving the paving game.

didn't end up using them, but yes they should get an award for the service, flexibility and knowledge.
