They are telling me now that the surface is pressure cleaned and that it will look great after a month or so -- any views -- I have taken some more pictures of the flag surface.

They tell me this surface is because it's been pressure cleaned and that the rust spots/ delam's and paint are part of the weathered look. i'm waiting to hear whether they will take it back. If not i'm thinking I'll

How about asking them to take it back for a refund minus a restocking charge?
That way they've still made a bit of money and they don't have to admit liabilty.
You will loose some money but just take it as a lesson learned?

Thats a good suggestion Bob, that way hopefully everyone saves face. On the other hand the law would have been on your side if you had asked to return the goods within 7 days, I fear that timescale may have passed now. That was your best way of redress.

It wasn't delaminating when it left their corral and anyway, the delamination is part of the natural 'weathered' charm? Testicles!

Power washing, which is used all to often with reclaimed yorkstone IMO, will expose many weaknesses such as delamination and fractures, but it can also exacerbate minor weaknesses that, left to natural weathering, wouldn't have presented an issue for perhaps a couple of decades.

Just a quick update -- they did in the end replace the stone with some beautiful weathered yorkstone and we have it laid now. This was largely I think because I referred them to the comments on this site. I have to give them their due though it worked out in the end.

happy to put up pics of the finished patio who should I send them too. I agreed with them i would not name them on the site - they seemed quite genuine about trying to make things right n the end

Fair play to them for finally sorting things out. It must be a big relief for you. The power of paving expert is not to be underestimated and will have definately played a part in them deciding to put things right. Look forward to seeing the finished shots

Just read through this post and although it's now resolved, I wanted to pick up on the fact that the company advised the stone was fine when it left them. Presumably they arranged the delivery to you and therefore the goods should still be their responsibility until they reach you which means they should have a policy in place for handling 'transit damages' if this is what they were alluding to. Any internet retailer of paving knows that there is always a risk of damages in transit and the process has to be in place to resolve this rather than implying that it's just an acceptable hazard of buying online. This attitude gives us all a bad name.
