for joints as tight as that I would use an external grout or gun applied product like easipoint

thanks, guys! I made a notice of your opinion about products to use. It is Rompox Easy, I believe, and I think, I will have to let him do what he wants to do since as a customer, I'm not supposed to stick my nose into contractor's business unless it ruins the final product, right? If it happenned that the patio will need repointing in some test of time, I will now know what to ask for.

I wish I'd found this place before I even contracted somebody to do my patio. But as it often happens, the knowledge comes late after you'd need it.
many many thanks to all who invested their time and knowledge into this forum! great work!

thats good to hear lana
very occasionally we get people come here before they start NRY for instance, and that way we can steer them towards a proper job in the first place
thanks for the feedback

Sorry for bringing up the old topic, just a very brief question, all about the same old "pain" :-( I'm having a bit of "argument" with contractor about "fair" and "unfair" expectations. so I would like to know in a very general terms, how long should I expect for such patio (the pic link mentioned above in this thread already) to be completed from the start to the finish? How much time to make the base and lay 14 sq m with the step and side ramp can be called a fair time, considering all the materials were supplied on site prior to the job actually started?
thanks in advance for any estimate from experienced people!

hmm
3-5 days
bearing in mind the 178M2 job with walls we just did took 22 working days start to finish
2 weeks at the outside

LLL, thanks a lot! I've been thinking the same, about couple of weeks, a month the most, considering one man job, out of hours and weather not being cooperative at times...oh well...thanks for confirming my estimate.

embarassed to say it started on the 1st of May... :( still waiting for pointing to be done and when mentioned that I expect this to be finished at the first weather opportunity, or I will have to start looking for someone else to come and finish the job, I was being called "unfair". considering I have blondly paid for the job in full, just because felt sorry for the guy desperate for his money...so much for being fair, eh...oh well, hopefully, by the end of summer...
didn't meant to complain, btw, just was checking how realistic my expectations were in terms of fairness ;-)

Sounds to me like you have been more than fair. There has been ample opportunity in the past month for him to come back and get the pointing done. He is just taking the pish. Thats the problem with paying before the jobs done.
I would ask him for a date to come and finish it. See if he sticks to it. Get it by email if you can.
Good luck
Steve

I want to be fair for both sides too. I've been careless enough to say in the first place, I'm in no particular hurry, then I stumbled upon this place and having picked up few crumbs of knowledge, insisted I want it sealed before pointing, so I'm also to share the blame, as a "picky customer", I don't mind though, as I'm confident my demands were the right ones and I still think, three months is too long on any account anyway :-) thanks aghain, guys, for support, both, emotional and professional.

a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing Lana
thing is 3 months for that is a liberty
most blokes on here would be in and out in a week on a job that size

thing is if he has had the moolah there is sweet FA incentive for him to return if he has other paying work on the go

like you say you are partly at blame ,but not 3 months worth

cheers LLL

Fairy nuff :) The PIC drive cracked mind, but hey ho, no weeds and it still looks good, the crack tends to follow the PIC imprints so it's not noticeable unless you are PICky. Garden paving work is great :)
