I would agree in part BUT I believe it IS worth the time of a contractor on particular projects where an off the shelf product might not be suitable - as in available colour selection.

With regards to DIYers, I don't agree necessairily - I think that there will always be people out there who pride themselves in doing a job themselves and/or in saving money. In either case, pigments have a place PROVIDED the person takes the time and care to learn how to use the product correctly.

Where people fall down is when they see it as ONLY a way to save money but then don't take the time - but the same would apply if they don't take the time to get their levels right or to put in a correct sub base. That too leads to disaster.

Pigments aren't THAT hard to use!

I used pigment to colour the motor on our patio 6 years ago and it looked as good as it then as it does now.
The pigment came from Scot-cem (manufacture of Roof Tiles), red and black mixed to make brown.
My Brother did the mixing and was quite specific about mixes etc but they do work.

i welcome both the bruce's excellent articles on pigments and concrete
we may all have opinions on different things but facts are facts
