Did you use water spray to wet the mortar after brushed in?

As a general rule, this time of year, I would always cover for at least the night to protect from potential frost. If you've gone for a slightly 'peaked' pointing finish rather than a wire brushed 'flush' finish, it's probably due to the traffic rather than the weather.
