Stonemarket Slate Project Pack:
24 @ 600x600
35 @ 600x295
34 @ 295x295

Total area = 17.8m² excl jointing

To joint 17.8m² requires 45kg resin mortar or 55kg cement mortar, excl. wastage

So: 45kg ÷ 18m² = 2.5kg/m²

Yep, that was the calculation I used.

I think the over-estimate was due to the joint depth at only 30mm - basically the thickness of the slab plus a little, rather than the 50mm for cast slabs or sandstone.

30mm is the bare minimum for Rompox, although the joint width was 10-15mm rather than their stated min of 8mm, so I think there ought to be enough mass of the mix overall.

Any of you guys tried Lithofix - it's an alternative to Rompox Patio? Strength and use wise it seems the same but much cheaper. Its Danish.

Hi Rich. No, I should be thanking you for sorting me out some tins. I couldn't find it anywhere really, especially in Basalt, so it was def worth driving to you to get it.

As soon as the weather improves (with no risk of rain for 24hours) im gonna finish it off - at long last.

Question, do I need to pack down the Rompox so that it sit in the joints really tight, or will just a light sweep into all the joins be enough?

We just swept it in, first with the stiff brush and then with the soft one. Set very hard, can't even get a fingernail into it. You could strike it in, it would give it a nice finish, but I don't think you need to as long as the mix is filling the joint.

Gutted. Some of mine has broken up now on my patio. 35 mm deep and maybe 20mm wide by about 125mm long. It is in the area where the dog goes for a wee so maybe something to do with it.

Looking to seal it for the wet look this summer so the dog will be off into kennels for two days i think. Will reapply the rompox where it has broken. Guess ill need to get the angle grinder out in a couple of places to make sure its deep enough.
Thankyou

Hi lads
First off - thank you. We have used the paving site and thoroughly appreciate all your tips and tricks of the trade. (Took me two days to plan this 16sqm site using cut out bits of paper so we didnt get long lines or four corners). HOWEVER - we tried to get some Rompox yesterday from Stoneworld and they said they are no longer supplying it because they have had reports that it degrades after a couple of years. They recommended 'Resiply'. Any comments?

never heard of resiply.
IME romex products are great if installed correctly,I imagine the main problem being is if detritus etc gets into the joints and they are not the recommended depth, i always aim for 10 mm wide and 30 mm deep, also its a no brainer just brushing it over, there will be voids left unfilled waiting for some water or moss action

LLL,

Hello mate. Got the Rompox Easy in yesterday evening (took six tins, i ordered seven..phew). Started at 5pm when still very warm and it was going off quick, finished at 9pm. One thing i was a bit worried about was that some of the tins had not mixed/had large hard lumps of greenish (presumably either a hardening agent or resin) compound. I tried to break it up and mix it in with some success. This applied to about half of the tins. Still ,all looks to have gone off okay. I'll forward some pics soon.
