There is a known compatibility problem between the software and the server that causes a small number of irritating problems, the worst of which, up to now, has been to remove older messages from the fora without my authorisation. In the 3 years this ssytem has been running, there has never been a problem with member status files, and the company responsible for providing the software tell me there is no known record of such a problem with over 100,000 other installations of the software. Like me, they believe the only way this error could have happened is by someone toying with the Profile facility. As it was neither of us, it must have been a third party, and the fact that they were able to implement even the smallest of changes is a concern.

However, for me to upgrade the software to the more stable v3 is going to cost me over 400 quid, and as this site makes no money, I can't justify such an expense at this time. I may be able to fund it later in the summer, but for now, we'll just have to manage with what we have - it's not ideal, but it's better than nowt.
