Don't plant hire places usually put trackers on plant?
i had one once, trouble is they drain the battery and because the machine is so small, there is no where to "hide" it, so it just gets smashed off

Is this covered by your insurance?

I have jcb insurance, who also financed the machine.
no doubt they will wriggle out of it somehow.
still no police...

Hi Dan
I had a takeuchi stolen a couple of years back and I spoke to someone at the plant and agricultural national intelligence unit based at the met in London. They were very very helpful and managed to get it back for me I was lucky. But may be worth a E mail to tell them. Also The equipment registar (TER) are very good too. They have to sell it somehow. Goodluck

Bad news. The police will not investigate as they say its a civil matter, as he has technically not said he is not returning the machine, its just an extended hire. No crime number, cannot register on ter, and no insurance as no crime number. I am stuffed.

If you have a throw away mobile number, give a false name and address, yes. I stupidly did not check id, though that can be printed off the net now anyway.
I am furious. I waited in all weekend for these clowns to come round, lost a days work yesterday to be told this.
I can only hope it comes up for sale soon, that way I can get it back

most hire companies in my area now will only give hire on larger expensive plant after you have opened an account and shown you have your own plant theft insurance

I would take a trip to the local police station and ask for the duty inspector, and then ask him / her why they refuse to investigate fraud by false representation and or obtaining goods or services by fraud
Maybe even tell them that you have informed your insurance company about this lack of interest by the police, and the insurance company’s legal department, which you have access to as a result of legal cover, are awaiting a formal letter stating that the police are refusing to register this crime & investigate this crime…this part is mainly because they, the police, will appreciate that the insurance company have resources that are far greater than yours and can make a stink ( better than the threat of the media etc)
