When the levels are set on a radius kerbline. i still lay down on the ground and eye them in, getting a mate to raise, or lower the string line a gnats knacker, or two. Once a paving job etc is finished it will be viewed by the publics eye not their hand held levels.

haha indeed, just the same way we do it Sean. Can't beat eyeing in the line aftersetting it out with levels etc.
If the job looks right, it usually IS right.

When I do my training courses, I have the trainees eye-in their levels, be they for kerbs or flags or whatever. String lines sag, laser levels are only as accurate as the set up, but light will always travel in straight lines (on this planet, anyway!), so there's nowt surer than eyeing-in.
And a tip from someone the wrong side of 40 - when you get too knackered to get your eye down to ground level, use boning rods to save your back and knees.
