another point to add to this conversation
if you use recycled aggregate that has come from housing stock of the 40s-50s-60s
there is a very good chance that there will be asbestos fibres in there somewhere
floor tiles
soffit boards
roof sheets
toilet seats and cisterns
insulation
guttering
fire checking
its much about everywhere in house from edwardian times to the 90s,fine if its left untouched
not good if it gets crushed
I reckon if you crush your own (as we have done quite a few times) or can see it is pure concrete that has been crushed ,go for it
but 1 cement bag or batten says it all for me

The problem is the yards get someone on the phone asking for type 1 they tell them their crusher run is type1 and it's not, it's not graded or have the necessary fines. Rd here it's all house bricks wood plaster basically a skip.

A while back I posted those test results that showed unless it was pure concrete it waa no were near as durable and long lasting as quarried aggregates. Even concrete scored much lower on the Californian abrasion test than virgin limestone.


We are lucky were we are in the peak district we have more quarries than most places, I drive by 4 on way through peaks. Tarmac Stoney Middleton, l'farge cement plant at hope, ici water swallows and tunstead Milton which are massive got their own train lines.
