it could be done with a recessed man hole cover to create a ramp instead of a step but depending on were pipes enter man hole and costs involved . sometimes the smallest of jobs are the most expensive:)

we would really need to see into it,taking the biscuit off and removing a ring may not be feasible if the rings are large and go under the public path
its not really possible to chip away at the biscuit (reinforced concrete)
so a pic please
matt

well thats it then matt
yes it can be dropped 1 section and then the biscuit put back and built up to level for a recessed cover
its not a 5 minute job and the recessed covers are around £45 but it can be done
hope this helps

Yes the biscuit is the cover slab with the hole in it, it is reinforced. But don't chip at it, you have to lift it off, then dig round the top section and lit it out. Bring it back up to new cover level with bricks, tiles old concrete edgings etc; its not a mammoth task you could have it done by lunch time. Have a word with your mother now because no doubt other "knocker men" will be told she is an "soft touch" and be around. :;):

The basketweave suggests he didn't want to do any cuts! The edging blocks are haunched, though.
As for the MH, I'd reckon digging out to remove a ring partly on a public path would cost as much as the little bit of BP that got done.
Put a pot on it!

No pot for me thanks. If a job's worth doing.... and all that.
It would look so much better to have a decent recess cover in place. I'd cost it out (it's got to be somewhere around a couple of hundred quid tops) and let the client make the decision. If they are happy enough living with the bouncing tin cover, so be it, but while the workers are on site, it makes sense to take advantage of their skills.

sadly tony,an awful lot of people when given the choice of expensive quality or cheap bare minimum go for the latter. i hate those tinny covers, dandys (BM) has got some nice cast iron £50 ones in but a lot of people want to save that £25 .
i agree with what has been said ,but i asked about price as sometimes people want the job to fit the price, which doesn't really work

Best not to give them the choice of the cheaper one, just price it up for the recess. :;):
