i have never seen red sand in my life its all yellow down here,local quarries probabaly

its all red up her also, some looks a bit more pink though.

I did have a hugh pile of green sand It was the old sand from under the pavers and had been stood for 18 months.
I think all the cats in the neighbourhood had been using it for their comunial toilet. They still visit to where the pile once was, try and scratch up the newly laid paving, then leave in haste.

heh the cats do like the sand. The colours are the same with the type 1 up here, usually from Keyline its blue, and from Jewsons its red, they just get it from different quarries.

Drive is now nearly finished, I just need to do a little cutting in and also do the infill for the manhole cover.
Do you keep the pattern so it continues through onto the lid ?
Looking at it, maybe i should have kept the bits that i cut from around the cover so they would have run in nicely.
As you can see from the picture, the cover is at a very funny angle so there will be lots of little pieces. would it be better to just do a herringbone pattern within the lid ?

I think you want to continue the pattern on the manhole. I am a PIC installer and that is what I do as it helps hide the manhole. If the pattern is not continued it draws attention to the cover.

take your time follow the pattern on should take you no more than 60mins. not showing off but i have been laying paving since nappies would take me about 13mins.

Give me your honest opinion, does it look ok ? The drive is a tad under 7 meters wide and 9 long. I have only ever done this once before and that was eight years ago when i first laid it. Amazing how good clay pavers look when you flip-em over and expose the side once buried it slopes downwards from left to right and also away from the house.
It would have been an easy job if it was a level road and not on a hill

Mick, I'm a rank amateur when it comes to pavers, but I'll wager the missus will be chuffed to bits with the driveway and her new carpet -- good on you!

It does look rather good, you should be proud of what you have done. It doesnt matter how long it takes you, aslong as youre happy with the end result

a good job. maybe if you get the time you might replace concrete edgings with block paved edges. i remember having no carpet but left the edge grippers in.... fffflip me did it hurt getting up for a p in the night and forgetting they where there :p ( no it was my feet that dragged on them ) :;):

Did you feel a little prick :laugh:
