Might seem a long widned way of doing it but if you mix cement with sand (sharp or soft), mix say 1:4, make up a liquid solution of 1:1 Ronafix : water and point this into the joints, it'll stick like s*** to a blanket and not even the most enthusiastic ant will shift it.
Word of warning, Ronafix sticks, and will stain your brickwork, etc if you get it on the face.

Was talking to a customer yesterday about my block paving experience....he mentioned that when doing his he mixed cement with the bedding sand (say 15:1). He mentioned this is a 'known' cure for preventing ants, as it creates a mortar just hard enough to stop the blighters from chucking the sand everywhere?
Any comments????

It's not a 'known cure' at all. It's silly and can cause more problems than it allegedly solves, because it creates a barrier to proper drainage of the blocks and the bedding.
If it worked and was a sensible method of construction, we'd all be doing it, but we don't, which tells its own story.
There are 'approved' methods of sealing the joint sand, but, to be honest, a properly laid block pavement will self-seal its joints with detritus over time and become ant-proof without any need for cement.
