Those tiles would drive me mental I couldn't stand to have them in my house. Utilities are the reason why expensive paving is wasted on city centre shopping districts. Belfast has massive amounts of new paving and it's covered in tarmac and 3x2 flag patches where they chucked the good stiff in the lorry and reinstated with crap. Until chewing gum is banned no council should bother their arses spending that kind of money anyway.

A crime on every level, having had a better look i realised that this picture is just done the road in coulsdon in surrey, my old manor and the work must be only 4-5 years old and its badly done almost everywhere. Any one suggest what happened and why its all missing?

They can't reinstate the granite, but they somehow managed to get a double yellow back in place just in case someone wanted to park Noddy's car-for-one in that 6 foot gap!
I'd guess, given the presence of the grating, that it's a drainage problem, made much worse by patching with blacktop.

This is, allegedly, a showpiece garden at a very important garden show last year.....
