FB is a lifeline for me it lets me keep up with old colleagues and friends that otherwise I'd lose contact with. You can see what folk are up to and check their photos and don't need to talk sh*te to do it. Got about 170 friends and I've know most of them well at some point in my life but i politely decline requests from ex's and clients.

I did use mrs lout's account to check up some old school mates and was surprised how many are living in oz and canada etc.
and i agree that if maybe like pablo you are a stranger in a strange land then it might be worthwhile.
but i have privacy concerns about the way they collect and use your info
however a young fella Brendan Hennelly aged 30,who i drank with till recently ,died after a bone marrow op
and it is/was very poignant reading his comments leading up to the op and the condolences after

I really don't like facebook but it has served it's purpose for me. Used it as a blog to keep everyone updated on my 6 month trip to Brazil, meant I didn't have to send a lot of emails to everyone. Helped me keep in touch with acquantances who moved abroad which has helped a lot with holidays. Great not having to pay for accommodation and having somebody who lives there as a tour guide
