suggers is left one

dads been a builder since i was born and was a car dealer before that, he did read (history and english lit, so i had education drummed into me as well) he had a few pitches and decided to build on them... que 30 years later and hes still going strong...

i fit in as a kid growing up on builder sites and at our farm being given the typical builders/farmers/groundworkers son education. started making tea, sweeping up and cleaning the brew cabin at weekends and holidays, then following the tradesmen rd the sites annoying them asking why they were doing stuff. then at the age of about 13 started working holidays doing light labouring and crap jobs, at home me and dad would be in the barn rebuilding engines, fixing stuff, i could weld competently by 16 having followed our fabricator rd as he fixed stuff over the years.

rebuilt a 4 pot john deere engine on my own with a bit of help from my dad as a 16 year old inc new piston liners, rings etc after head gasket went when haymaking. ( i had a lucrative business selling nice hay to posh horsey ladies) delivering it myself in tractor and big trailer 100 bales at a time :)

always did well at school, 4 A, 5 b gcse, A in IT, 2xB's in law and economics at A level went to uni did computer science, dot a BSc in it, worked in munich for 18 months but got fed up with being indoors 5 days a week, had always been outside growing up so got to me being in an office.

went back with my dad, we had two jobs on simultaneously £2.4m mansion and 5x 5bed houses and 8x2 bed flats so while dad ran the small delopment site i ran the big house for 14 months and had to learn fast lol, but got a good grounding form our foreman who works with me and my dad still whos the best plant man/worker ive ever had the privilege of working with.

then did a year or so as a backline technician working for bands touring uk/europe, that was fun, met my lads mum and after 6 months she was pregnant! so had to jack that in and .... started my groundworking firm doing footing for other builders and speciliasing in the horse stuff as we had a raft of townies move near my mum and dads with money and bored wifes that wanted horses so had a great two years till credit crunch hit, found this site according to the site i registered august 2008 but had been using it for a while and lurking.

taught me all i know about paving and flag laying, before that id watched brick layers lay them on 5 dabs and bricklaying mix, thank god for tony and all his work :)

been a mixed last two years been working for my dad when weve been quiet, and done a few bits had a few big jobs on but gonna have to start advertising as word of mouth has dried up of late, getting more and more into big sites and nhs work which pays well buts its a hassle with h&s and travel.

think that covers it with being a dad 50% of the week as well,

Through a local company that does all the modular buildings, they have a national groundwoking firm but were working local and I'd done a Indian stone patio for one of the guys think he was owners son, he asked if I wanted to do the medical centres nearby I said yes we did a great job and were cheap in their eyes, I was charging myself 3 ton and my foreman at £600 a day. Then since then we've been doing a lot of concrete slabs for them big pours 40-50 metres a time
