P P, t v audience, in my view, translates as viewing figures, you are being a trifle pedantic about the reality bit. Yes it would be '' a bit boring'' to show everything but all i'm asking for is one argument with them both and a slap around the ear for the kids :;):
That, in my opinion is about as real as it gets.

Back to Seans original post I'd say it's well edited but they also look like a good team and well suited together. I think she knew exactly what she was doing and has been very smart about it. Once all the work has been done retrospective approval is much easier to get than it would be at the start and cheaper too because it's likely a lot of stipulations are to late to enforce. Beeny now has a bargaining tool in that she can say well I'll just rip it all out now and let it all fall down if you don't compromise and TBH she's gone the right way about it planning officers are a nightmare around listed and scheduled buildings and don't consider timescales or budgets they just consider the building and little else. My Father used to have a hotel in the highlands that was partly a scheduled ancient monument and he was tortured by conservationists making sure the right nails were being used and the same stone was going back into walls etc. What does it matter if the material isn't being seen then why should you use the most expensive method of repair just to keep it original as long as the finished look is authentic then so what. There's a big difference between her telling someone to get easy approval for a 3 bed semi in the burbs and trying to get that house past the Beaurocrats. Fair play to her although I'd have kept the roof original but I know how much welsh slate costs because I did my own roof last year with Bangor blues and it wasn't easy on the pocket.
Can't see it from my house

to answer the original question,
could I "do up" a place with the wife, and kids whilst living there, no. no chance. her and the kids would get more than one hammer thrown at them.
good news is it will never happen, for the following reasons:-
I wouldn't buy another do'er upper. (been there, done that, got the t-shirt)
the mrs wouldn't buy a do'er upper, for a host reasons guided mainly by female logic.
if for some reason we did, she would only visit the site from the rented accommodation we (read she) would be living in, and then only to complain, critica and probably offend the best worker/craftsmen on site.
better still it would never be grade 2 listed, the way they insist on how things are done and materials used, it would appear they would rather see a building disintegrate and disappear rather than be flexible and encourage other people to take on these properties.
could I mange it with mrs beeny, i'd like to try so I can observe those assets up close and personal!!!

You think Channel 4 should broadcast a programme where a parent slaps his/her kids round the ear? ???seanandruby wrote:P P, t v audience, in my view, translates as viewing figures, you are being a trifle pedantic about the reality bit. I would pay to watch a show where wee brats got skelped for half an hour.

Doubtless that would be entertaining but not really for the audience they are aiming for. The sort that would be screaming in the Daily Mail for police to intervene in such a blatant case of child abuse.
Though I'm sure Ms Beeny abides by the old mantra that there is no such thing as bad publicity, being arrested for slapping her kids on national telly may be a step too far.
