I'm not 100% sure al, but I don't think they use dynamite, apparently it can damage the block. They drill into the block close to the seam and put some kind of solution in the hole that expands and separates the block.

Steve, you need to photo shop the lorry out of that pic, and give yourself wings mate, scare the sh2*e out of the competition then.
Is there any way that a range of UK stone could compete with the mid price imported stone, say the £35-£45 price range or is it not viable. I remember a few years back, I think, one of the Cornish quarries doing a multi size Paving pack, which wasn't far off the imported Slate price( maybe Delabole). It would be good to be able to offer Uk products that didn't scare the clients off. I suppose it's way to expensive to compete or is there a bit of a reluctance in the market to "lower standards" so to speak?

We would want about 70m2 of 40mm thick material from a block of that shape and size
Mick, The only way to do it would be to bust the spec by reducing the thickness of the stone, but even so it still could not be as cheap as the imported stones. Cost of business in the UK compared to overseas makes it very difficult to compete

Shame though, be great to be able to spec British Stone. Mind you as a few of my clients are of Asian Descent, I suppose I am offering them "Homegrown" so to speak.:p

Mick, just had a chat with my business partner. We did look at supplying Yorkstone in 25mm thickness but our suppliers advised against it. Apparently it can warp and shrink and 38mm is the absolute minimum thickness recommended

Ha ha, brilliant, you've got to use that in your next marketing campaign Steve.
Point taken about the Stone mate, perhaps I need to extoll the virtues of our homegrown a bit more, or move to London, seems to be more dollar about down there. I was wondering where it had all gone!!
Can I have a new toy too, even our designer's got a kit before me.
P.S That Limestone still has a few marks on it, I'm going too have a look Thursday evening. Do you supply a stripping agent if I need one mate?
