Same thing was done near my mum's. Beautiful granite setts to make a speed bump, 3 months later dug up in the middle and filled with tarmac.

We have a load of tarmac infills going in around Milton Keynes atm, doesn't matter what was there before.

Pressures of austerity measures.

The companies doing these works face extremely tough competition and the only way they make a profit is by getting in and out within a time frame.
It'll cost in the long run though.

and you get the well liked guy going from job to job doing the core drilling to check the depth of tarmac, the company are fined and the contractor not paid if its not the correct depth
