what did you use to compact the paving on your last job ?

We had 2 wackers on my last job. A tank with a crank, and a little bell for the 50mm tegs from the hire shop. I roped my younger brother in on the dig and he'd just come off a job laying 80mm permiable so we used his for the MOT but I didn't want to use it on the little Teg's because it was a prehistoric beast that would have destroyed them.

I've never heard of them before but they look very good.

Can't find a price yet but they don't look cheap.

I used to hire a Dynapac years back before I took the plunge and bought my own.
Absolute monster of a machine.

Looking at MickG's links I realised there was a thread that I should have updated. After initial problems with my WP550 Wacker replaced it like for like, can't fault them for that.
Must say I am happy with the model now and would definitely recommend it.

Sy bite the bullet, borrow the money, take out an overdraft or sell your arse on the streets :p but buy a tidy one and you only cry once.

Lemon, I've only just got myself out of debt. I've been the sole bread winner for just over a year. My Mrs is a driving instructor and we had a boy last August. Her maternity pay was the pittance that the government pay out because she's self employed and that ran out 2 months ago.

The last 4 job's plus my tax return has left me in the black with money spare for materials. The next job I'm on is a natural stone Patio that will take a couple of week's and I can't get the materials on account because Stonecraft don't do trade account's.

After a bit of working out, I can still spare a few quid for a wacker. Since starting this thread I'm not ruling out a decent new one but I have now ruled out a no brand.

I've saw 4 on ebay last night and have messaged the sellers

They all look fairly tidy and are within budget. I'm never keen on buying second hand but needs must.

I was thinking number 1 looked the oldest Tony. Number 2 would be my first choice too but picking it up from preston would be a PITA. Why do you say that 4 look's the oldest? That was my second choice. Number 3 also looks Tidy.

Mick, how do you lift your machine onto the van.? Biggest problem for me is being on my own, manhandling something heavy without wheels is hard work!

i lift our 90kg bomag into the back of my navara, it aint good for me i know and its heavy better off getting a little crane on your flat back dan

or ive done the draging them up a plank routine as well

normally I drag it and then lift it into the van either on my own or we lift it in together, it heavy but I can lift it onto the side door step then lean back while lifting to get additional height required to put it into its place in the van

can also drag/lift into a wheel barrow when getting it out of the van then slowly lay the wheel barrow on its side while at the same time lifting it out and onto the ground

i have aluminium ramps and timber planks in the van just in case they are required on a job but very rarely use them for getting or putting the vibrating plate away but could if required

we were offered a second hand plate for £250 recently so i asked for a days trial
it was great forwards but for some reason when you pulled it backwards in dug in the subbase ==> so no good
it worries me that number 4 has been painted black,never a good sign
We used to have a wacker like number 1 and it was fab till it got nicked

I get the same problem with the belle wackers like this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm....41969f. I think it's the handle design that makes them dig in.

I love the wackers that are pictures 1 and 3. I've used loads over the years. They're brilliant.

The reason the painted wacker was my second choice is because it has a narrower plate. I know it's not ideal for wacking blocks but I can get a 16"plate in my van next to the mixer comfortably.

Do you not get a deposit from the client for the materials?
