Accident at work

Went down a small ladder at work to lay pipes about a metre deep. When i went to come out the ladder was gone, taken up to the roof and it was the only one on the job suitable for me. so had to climb on the pipe to haul myself out. Slipped on the pipe, fell in, stabbed my arm on existing re-bar went hospital for tetanus. That was Monday, yesterday, Thursday had to come home because in pain, suspect whiplash, just going Drs. So now into second day and may be signed off work. How do i stand being self employed?

You asking where you stand regarding sick pay or if you are entitled to compensation?

If it is sick pay, then you can get employment support allowance - there are calculators etc online for it.
If you have any type of insurance or member of any federation like FSB, FMB etc then they normally cover you for any illness or injury too.

So you were working at a metre deep without a banksman at the top to aid you if something bad had happened?

Dave a metre is fine, anything over 1200 i'd of had a re-think. Giles I had a guy on top, he helped me out. LLL thanks for your concern i'm fine apart from whiplash, sore side, hip and cut arm etc: It's the 2nd trip/fall i've had in 6 weeks, the other was trailing cables from ceiling to floor. The sites are a disgrace safety wise and i am in a mind to take it further, not just with the subbie Coffey but the main contractor ISG. Maybe i am to used to working on safe sites and so lost the sixth sense of danger. Must upload the photo's i took of the unsafe working practices.

Did you report the safety concerns to the site manager at the time? Remember your health and safety test etc it's everyone's responsibility to report unsafe working conditions

I know in reality it doesn't work like that but that's what they are gonna come back at you with.

Why did your top side man let them take your ladder.....

Remember method statements are as much about ass covering as they are about safety, they'll say you weren't following the method statement that you signed.
