I’ve started work on my back garden – it is about 9 metres long and 5 metres wide (rectangle shape). My house is surrounded by fields which drain down into the garden.
The garden is very muddy with heavy clay soil. I have excavated around 7-9 inches of soil and filled the area with MOT type 1 scalpings on top of which I want to lay a patio.
The ground seems spongy in areas and the whacker digs itself into a little hole ! – What would be the best long term solution to sort this situation out and provide the drainage the garden needs ?
1. Will the scalpings eventually dry out enough to be wacked and the patio laid on top – falling away from the house into a aco drainage channel.
2. Do I need to install land drains ? – can these be laid under the patio ?
Very grateful for any advice
Thanks
