Extend? If this can be made into a discrete area, where you, f'rinstance, separate the existing from the new with a break band of contrasting blocks, setts, edgings or summat, then any colour difference is mitigated and there's no installation problem of mixing 50s with 60s.
It's if you try to mix the old and new that you'll have installation problems, and if you lay the new directly against the old, there's likely to be a noticeable difference in colour and texture.

I am thinking of doing something similar. I just can't get the old B&Q blocks at all, never mind the same colour.
I was planning on layin a course of black pavers, 50mm directly against the existing 60mm, on sand, to create a visual break, and the continuing with new design 50mm pavers.
Will this be stable enough or do I need to create a hard edge between the different thickness?
Regards,
Colin.
