There was a thread not long ago where roger gave some advice and a few pics.
I think it had lichen in the title.

Bleach - sometimes takes a few goes, but it's the cheapest, most effective fix that I've found.

If you follow the advice from the thread r896neo stated, this should sort out the lichen, it is one of my mixes.r896neo wrote:There was a thread not long ago where roger gave some advice and a few pics.

Cheers LLL, I guessed it had SHC in it but didn't know that the other ingredient in this magical potion was baby shampoo. Pray tell me someone what the baby (why baby) shampoo has to do with this Hokus Pokus.
Most of the bm's sell bleach not sure what the content % is but it's priced at around £5/L find it by the feb, frostproofer etc.
Used it for a small job just before Xmas, did the job for me, maybe just don't dilute it so much.
In the first image I had already gone over it with one of those block paving wire brushes,to get out the worst of the moss and gave the area a good brush off. The little scraper on the other end is particularly useful for the removal of moss and weeds.

The soap/shampoo helps keep the hypo mix on the surface and aids the cleaning process so gives the mix some "cling" to the surface as opposed to straight going into the stone/paver etc
The mix for most cleaning, moss, algae & lichen is 3:1, so 3 parts water 1 part sodium hypochlorite, plus the soap/shampoo. There are full directions on the stains removals page on the main site. Please read them thoroughly as you can do some damage, IE kill grass, plants, and don't use near a fish pond etc. Anything you don't understand feel free to email me or post a question on here.

Thanks Roger, much appreciated.
Cleaning drives is not my usual thing, I installed the drive and wall almost 4 years ago and customer asked me back to clean it. Great for a Saturday morning, especially as Xmas was looming.
Thinking about doing this as a sideline, fill in between jobs or when BM let's me down (gonna need a lot of fill in jobs then).

You can leave it on for as long as you want (Natural Stone) as long as you keep the mix on the surface wet, so reapplying it.ambient wrote:how long do you leave it on for longer the better or too long and ruin colour and is it harmful to dogs
As long as you wash/flush off completely there should be no danger to dogs & cats etc. This is a cleaning solution so all this is part of cleaning the paving, it isn't a spray-on and walk away type thing. With coloured concrete I haven't had any problems, but there is always the chance that you could lighten some colours I guess, so really 15-20 mins dwell time then wash off.
As always watch your run-off as it will kill fish if it was to go into ponds etc, and can damage grass & tender plants etc.
