How should sbr be correctly mixed to make mortar?

How should SBR be mixed correctly when making a mortar for pointing, going to go 3:1 mix.

Should SBR be added and mixed with water, and once mixed/blended together then put in mixer to make mortar?

I've read SBR increases workability of mortar, so should you add plasticiser or not?

As always

Thanks for your help

we did a roof last year and the arch inisted on 3 sharp sand 1 cement and 500ml of sbr in every mix
just need to be careful as it stains easy

I usually dont use SBR in the stong paving pointing mix

500ml per mix seems rather generous, but hey! It's an architect, so more or less guaranteed to be wrong! :;):

The most effective method is to mix the SBr with the gauging water before adding to the mixed dry ingredients. That way, you get a more even and easier dispersal of its gloopy goodness throughout the mix.

>>>glug-glug as mickg succinctly puts it

that's into a bucket of clean water and mixed together before adding to the sand and cement already in the mixer

But that's a summer mix. At the moment you probably won't need to add any water at all.

:D
