Thanks for all these messages - very much appreciated.

Been rodded and re-plumbed slightly, but the by-pass they had threatened has been postponed for at least 12 months while they sort out an unexpected problem that might be summat to do with the electrical supply to one side of the heart. Probably wired by a subbie's apprentice on a Friday afternoon, knowing my luck!

So tired and bruised and achey but more or less back to where I was 6 months ago. Fingers crossed! :p
