I have recently had some slate flgs 900mm x 1200mm in a kitchen area and whilst the bed was solid some of the flags have started to rock very slightly (1mm movement in corner. The flags are pointed in and polished and I do not want to get them up and re-lay them but the clicking sound when I walk over some of the flags is driving me up the wall. As there was no evidence of this when they were laid I have already paid the builder and can imagine the response I will get if I now tell him there is a problem.

My current thought is to drill in between the flags (near problem areas and inject a 'runny mortar mix' - Is this likely to work? Does anyone have a better idea?

Better to cut out the pointing around the affected corner (using a nangle grinder) and pour the slurry into the joint. "Click" the flags so they draw in the slurry, and then top up the joint.

It's not guaranteed to work, but it's a low-cost, low-impact trick that works in 50% of cases. If it doesn't, then you've no option but to lift the flags and re-seat them.
