Thanks again y'all for useful detailed comments. You'll have gathered I'm preparing these drawings to have a job done at my house trying not to use a structural engineer to do drawings.
Was expecting the drawings to appear here as is, but the link seems to work OK - is that the way its supposed to for these pdfs ?? Here it is again..

Anyway, I was hoping for general comments from the experts really, but one or two specifics :
1 Will that 'Cross Section' diagram work for the retaining wall ?
2 Looking at the overview and steps diagrams, will the H-blocks need to wrap around the top of the steps ?
3 You'll see I've put two stretches of French drains in. How deep do they have to go. I'm assuming they work like a soak-away. I'm trying to avoid going all the way round to the corner drain near the man-hole in the overview diagram.
4 What's the best material for the expansion joint I've put to the north between new retaining wall and existing conservatory brickwork ?
Sorry for all the questions.....
Retaining wall weep holes - I've got a scanned pdf diagram....

Footing wants to be wider on the backside of it to resist overturning forces

1 it will work but is massive overkill IMHO.
Tony how would you simplify ? You'll understand, having seen the existing mess yourself, why I'm erring on the side of caution. eg. Is 1m foundations too deep ?
2 the H blocks dont turn curves very easily.
Idea was to protect the wall ends from load and moisture. How else ?
3 I dont like french drains better to use linear drains running to outfalls.
Position of the French drains is remote where they are, from the drain at corner of house. Suppose this idea was to reduce work.

So how far back beyond the stone backfill should the base concrete extend ? And how deep ?
Tony McC
Funny I thought I'd spotted some drawings elsewhere on here. Must have been mistaken.
Anyway thanks again for all your valuable comments. I'll adjust the diagrams and send them out for estimates soon.
How much work goes on over the winter fellas ?

the biggest problem for whoever does your project peter is access, the job we are on is bad but yours is another level of bad access again
like anything it can be done, but the handballing will cost
