the biggest ball ache is VAT
70% dont want to pay it so straight away they are asking you to commit a crime
if i smell it coming i try and build the vat into the price
but there is no way we can or want to compete with the cash only merchants
polish and pakistani blokes working for £40 a day
whats the point?

Update on my original post
Accountant says he will send off what is required, and I have nothing to worry about as I am sqeaky clean.
My worst crime is paying cash into a private account and transferring it to a business account to save bank charges. But its all accounted for.
Will report the outcome

A few years ago , my business manger at bank told me to pay cash into personal account and transfer it over, to save charges as long as it is declared there is no problem. MSH :)

I use Coop bank, no charges when depositing cash. Allowed to deposit something like £4,000 a week with no charges.

FSB also covers you for any hmrc investigations.

Shame they pick on us small guys and leave the real thieves alone.
They may well leave you alone, but without an accountant can you be sure you have done your capital allowances correctly on your return?

I know there is a fashion for doing your own accounts but we have used the same guy for 20 years and he checks everything for us,peace of mind and his fees are tax deductible

read summat yesterday about benefit fraud ,apparently it runs at £1 billion per annum
a lot of money you might think

till you realise that big business uses tax avoidance schemes to avoid paying £25 billion quid every year in taxes

thats enough to give every man woman and child in the country £500 each

They might not want to check your return just yet but after checking your 'records' and finding something 25p adrift, they'll go through your accounts with a fine toothed comb no doubt :-/

they have found about 400 quid adrift in mine, bought a clutch and flywheel for my navara which didnt fit so i sold it, got tax relief on the initial purchase, but what i sold it for wasnt accounted for, Also an old stihlsaw which i sold on ebay.

As DaveL said, out with the fine toothcomb!

Accountants bill is already up to 300 quid!
