Suitability for driveway

Hi

Is indian stone suitable for a steep 1-car driveway? I have a kandlar grey patio and would like the driveway to match, but I'm worried about cracking, staining and weeds.

If not suitable, what would you recommend? Apparently it's too steep for imprinted concrete.

Of all of the indian stones kandala grey is one of the hardest as far as i know. Personally i would be very nervous about using it on a driveway.

Flags are even worse if your steep drive has a noticable hump at the road as you can't lay over any kind of curve with them.

Block paving is best suited to slopes but it sounds like your off that as an option.

I sell stone and hand on heart I dont believe that its a suitable material for driveway. You wont have an issue with weeds and if laid professionally it can withstand the rigours of a driveway but think of all the tyre marks and oil stains. If you dont mind that then crack on with it but I would not use it on my driveway for those reasons only. Block paving is a far better solution

Steven is right, though. This type of stone marks quite easily, and the paler stuff shows the martks more readily. I like the Kandala Grey; it's a genuinely good quality stone, but on a steep driveway? I think I'd be looking at a dark-ish block paver, possibly one of the granite-like products which would echo the colours of Kandala but give a more mark-resistant and easier-to-maintain surface.

It can be made to look quite attractive, in the right hands.

Finding those right hands is tricky though the weather here is so variable it's hard enough to get a good finish. We've laid over 500m3 this year and I'd still be hesitant about doing a brushed concrete drive this time of year.
