I have been offered some large (70cm) marble slabs at a very good price that have been reclaimed from an interior. I would like to use them for a new patio. What base should I use ? Could I lay them straight on to sand in case I wanted to move them at a later date?
Many thanks, love the site by the way!

They could be laid directly onto a sand bed, but they're probably best laid as any other patio flagstone - on a 10:1 mix of grit sand with cement. The cement content is low enough to prevent bonding between bed and base of flag, and there should be no staining problems.

Thank you very much Mr McC,
I'll hot foot it back to yard and see if they're still available. Fingers crossed!
